Purpose of a CG Leader
CGL’s job is to lead a group of Sojourners to become a Family of Disciples Sent on a shared mission. This is accomplished by moving towards a group where everyone is growing in Christ (Disciple), bearing one another’s burdens (Family), and engaging the lost through hospitality and service (Sent).
Qualifications
All potential CG leaders are assessed and approved by CG Coaches or the Groups Pastor. Below are the broad qualifications for CG leaders.

- Able to lead and organize others towards the vision for a healthy Midtown CG.
- Able to provide Gospel care for common struggles.
- Ability to develop future CG Leaders.
Capacity
- Lead CG from health as a primary area of ministry at Sojourn.

Role Description
How do CG Leaders live out the 3 identities in their role as a CG Leader?
Disciple
Casting Vision
CG Leaders are casting a holistic vision for their CG (Family of Disciples Sent on a shared mission). They are modeling and encouraging each of the 3 identities.
Scripture Discussion
Non-CG leaders are welcome to lead scripture or sermon discussion, but it ultimately falls on the CG leaders’ shoulders to ensure there are rhythms of reading Scripture in community.
Family
Reproduce Yourself
Always be looking to identify and develop future CG leaders -- “the fruit of great leadership is more leaders.”
Provide Gospel Encouragement for Common Struggles
CG Leaders should feel comfortable coming alongside Sojourners who are struggling and encouraging them with Gospel truths and a loving presence.
Sent-Ones
CG Rhythms of Hospitality and Service
Create regular CG rhythms of hospitality and service as you seek to build relationships with non-Christians and invite them into your group.
Quick Response to CG Visitors
Care for those who are Sent to you! Often CG’s are the first personal experience someone will have with Sojourn. First impressions are important, so we strive to respond to CG visitor inquiries within 48 hours.
Commitments
What are the basic commitments that CG Leaders are asked to make?
18 Month Leadership
CG Leaders are asked to commit to leader CG for at least 18 months, with year commitments thereafter.
Attend Ministery-Wide and Regional Syncs
Syncs will occur 3 times in the fall and 3 times in the spring. The first two Ministry-wide syncs will be led by the Pastor of Community Life with time spent amongst your CG Region led by the Regional Coach. The 3rd sync of each season will be among CG Regions and led exclusively by the CG Coach.
Consistent Communication with CG Coach
Regular communication is essential for developing a relationship and transmitting timely information. CG Leaders are asked to respond to their Coaches within 48 hours of contact. Coaches are also their first contact for any questions.
