Hi, thank you for clicking to learn more about me. To be honest, I’ve experienced God’s extraordinary grace in ordinary ways. My goal is to make Jesus known from a place of being deeply known and loved by him.
I grew up in Chicago, where I saw the gospel transform my family after my dad gave his life to Christ. Witnessing Jesus change my parents’ lives brought me to know him personally and respond to his call to follow. By the time I was 13, my parents were in full-time ministry, planting a church. This was when I sensed God calling me into ministry as well.
After some tumultuous years, I fully surrendered to Jesus while attending Michigan State University and accepted God's call to preach. My time serving at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church shaped my understanding that all ministry flows from abiding in Christ. After college, I moved to Louisville to pursue theological training at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I earned an MA and a doctorate in Black Church Leadership.
Since 2016, I’ve had the joy of serving as Lead Pastor of Sojourn Church Midtown. Our church is committed to growing as a multicultural, multi-generational community rooted in the gospel. It’s incredible to see how Jesus is using Midtown to reach people with the gospel, build them up as the church, and send them into the world.
I’m also the co-author of In Church as It Is in Heaven, a book exploring how the gospel shapes a multiethnic kingdom culture. I'm currently working on new projects I pray will further serve the church.
My greatest earthly blessing in this life is my wife, Amber, and our five children. Parenting and ministry remind me daily to depend on Jesus, who fuels everything I do.
Inspired by William Carey’s words, “Attempt great things for God, expect great things from God,” I trust Jesus to accomplish far more than I could imagine. If you’re curious about Sojourn Midtown or looking for a church home, I’d love for you to visit and experience what God is doing here.
