I serve as a non-staff pastor and pastor of preaching at Sojourn Midtown. I’m married to Ana, and we have one son, Jaden. We have been members at Sojourn Midtown since 2018. I love activities I can do with my family: watching good movies, basketball, and football games, traveling, and other leisure activities. I also love eating healthy and exercising.
My family and I love Sojourn Midtown’s vision “to fill up our city with gritty disciples,” and our mission “to reach people with the gospel, to build them up as the church, and to send them into the world.” We also love our intentional redemptive kingdom diversity multiethnic vision.
I’m a professor of New Testament Interpretation at Southern Seminary, where I’ve worked since 2013. Before that, I taught at a university,
I have published many books, including Christ Redeemed ‘Us’ from the Curse of the Law: A Jewish Martyrological Reading of Galatians 3:13 in the Library of New Testament Studies Monograph Series (T&T Clark, 2019), a commentary on Galatians in the New Covenant Commentary Series (Cascade, 2020), Redemptive Kingdom Diversity: A Biblical Theology of the People of God (Baker Academic, September 2021), The Spirit, Ethics, and Eternal Life: Paul’s Vision for the Christian Life in Galatians (IVP Academic, 2023), and a commentary on Romans (IVP Academic, 2023).
A few of my many current writing projects include a book on Romans (Baker Academic), a book on biblical and theological themes in Colossians and Philemon (Zondervan Academic), a commentary on Ephesians (B&H Academic), Paul’s use of the Old Testament in Galatians (Zondervan Academic), and a Pauline Theology (Baker Academic). I also plan to write a New Testament Theology.
My research interests are Galatians, Romans, Ephesians, Pauline Soteriology (broadly defined) in Paul’s Second Temple Jewish context, Pauline Theology, and soteriology in Second Temple Judaism. I currently supervise PhD students working on some aspect of Pauline Soteriology in Galatians in its Second Temple Jewish context. I’m interested in supervising prospective dissertations on potential topics related to Galatians, Romans, Ephesians, Pauline Soteriology, or Pauline Theology.
