Family Devotional

Let's Get Digital

As you've likely heard at this point, all our gatherings at Sojourn East have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. While we can't gather in person, we'll continue to gather virtually for worship and the preaching of the word each week. You can find those videos on the Sojourn East YouTube channel

Despite not meeting in person for awhile, we want to remain faithful to the call to disciple our children. We can't send teachers to each of your homes, but we'll do the next best thing - give you content you can use each week to point your kids to the gospel. We'll have a new lesson for you each Sunday, and some activities, ideas, and resources for Tuesdays Together. No seminary degree required. All you need is a willing heart and an ability to endure your own crazy kids. You got this!

Finally, we've put together a Spotify playlist of kids songs that we typically sing in our large group gatherings with your kiddos. You can throw these on before/after the devotional time, as you're winding down for bed, or ramping up for a dance party. Lots of options, and no wrong way to do it.

Let me know if you have any trouble accessing what's here, or have any questions in the coming days. Please know that we're praying with you and for you as we navigate this strange time together. Peace.

Sunday Lesson - May 24th, 2020

You can find links below for this week's elementary assembly (worship and teaching), a newly expanded preschool lesson from Mrs. Emily and Mr. Josh, a printable lesson and bible story for you to work through with your kids, and an activity packet with a lesson coloring sheet and some fun activity sheets. Don't forget to check out our sermon notes page for kids so they've got something to keep their mind and hands occupied while you guys watch big church together.

Our hope is that this is a chance to engage with your kids as you read, laugh, talk, and pray together. Mix it up and make it your own. Work through the story in your PJ's with pancakes, or go outside and share the lesson in the sunshine. Get creative. There's no wrong way to do this! Will it be perfect? Probably not. Will your kids sit still through the entire thing? Doubtful. Will it still serve to shepherd their heart? ABSOLUTELY! Let's use this time we've been given with our kids to point them to Jesus.

Tuesdays Together

While we're all adjusting to new rhythms all across life, our SojournKids team wants to help you turn this interruption into an opportunity to make some memories with your family. With Tuesdays Together we'll post an idea, art project, or activity every Tuesday on Facebook, Instagram, and here that'll give you a chance to spend some intentional time with your kids that day.

This week we've got some awesome, colorable ABC memory verse cards from Focus on the Family. Your kids can finally work on a project that won't immediately get tossed in a pile to toss. They can have fun making them their own, and then you guys can use them together in the coming days and weeks to start memorizing some small passages of scripture together. If you want to cheat and print a set that's already colored, you can find that version here. We pray this serves as another jumping off point for you as you continue discipling your kids during this time at home.

Sharing is caring, so snap a photo or respond in a comment to let us know how you're using this material or what other things you'd like to see! Our prayer is that this little break in your day from work, school, or time playing will help your family make some memories in the midst of these strange times. They may not remember exactly what you all did during all this time at home, but they'll remember that you made time for them in the middle of what can feel like aimlessly busy days. Have fun making some lemonade out of these corona-flavored lemons. :-)
