Our desire is to come alongside you in both your joy and sorrow so that we might help one another live in the awareness of God’s presence and see our whole lives through the grace of Jesus Christ.

Values of Sojourn East Care

Healing and growth are dependent on our union with Christ. He loves us and gives us the Spirit, who is the ultimate source of all improvement. Care encourages movement toward him in communion.
All care is based on the Word of God and focused on the good news of Jesus Christ.
Sin affects everything—our thoughts, feelings, and actions—and Christ redeems it all. We recognize the differences between sin, suffering, brokenness, and God-given limitations.
Our lives and stories are woven together on the journey toward wholeness. We encourage people to invite friends, family, and other relationships into their story for the sake of immediate and longterm encouragement and support.
The foundation of lasting change is honesty with ourselves, God, and one another. We foster honesty by leading with grace and upholding confidentiality.
All change takes time. God is patient with his children and that compels us to be patient with one another.
We emphasize dialogue and collaboration between the person receiving care, the one providing care, and God. We don’t have all the answers and can’t change people, so we work together to celebrate signs of God’s presence and promote healing and growth in his name.

Pastoral care is care by a staff or non-staff pastor of Sojourn that is generally short-term. Pastors help people understand their story in light of their relationship with God and then help them live more fully in that understanding. The focus is helping a person live before the face of God in light of their story.
Lay counselors are skilled friends who offer mid-length (generally 12 weeks) care through dialogue that blends discipleship, accountability, and at times a guided process. These members of Sojourn have received training to help them listen to your story and know how to speak words of hope and truth into your life.
Community groups are small groups of people who gather together regularly to build relationships, be transformed by God, and be sent to live on mission together. These groups focus on holistic discipleship through life together. Click here to view information on community groups.
Support Groups help people apply the hope of the gospel to their lives by providing community and resources targeted toward specific sin, life struggles, or types of suffering rather than the more holistic focus of a community group. Current Support Groups:
  • Men's Sexual Integrity Group: This safe, anonymous group is a place to journey toward hope and healing from lust, pornography, fantasy, or any other sexual brokenness or addiction. Gatherings are weekly, and opportunities for additional accountability are available. Contact Pastor Jason for more information.
  • Women's Love and Sexual Addictions Group: Discover hope and healing in community as you learn skills and truth that lead toward freedom. Contact Brittany Brackbill with questions or for more information and meeting details.
  • Betrayal and Beyond: Support, prayer, and truth for women who have been wounded by their partner's sexual boundary issues. Journey toward healing and reconciliation in community. Contact Audrey Glaize with questions or for more information and meeting details.
  • Grief Support Group: Next Group TBD, Life can be challenging when we have to navigate loss. Whether that is the death of a loved one, a loss of a relationship, or anticipatory grief. As a church we want to support you in this season by giving perspective and providing tools to help navigate through this hard season.
Care within Sojourn is limited to pastors and lay counselors. We recognize that at times the struggles and suffering people experience can benefit from people with additional training and expertise.
The care ministry partners with other ministries and leaders to offer classes and resources that help the body of Christ grow in maturity together. The focus of these classes and resources is on educating the body in soul care, building up the church to care for one another, and aiding individuals and families in their own growth.
  • Christ-Centered Soul Care: Spring 2019, Every evening of this 10-week, introductory class will begin with a short talk on topics like communion with God, union with Christ, working with the heart, and empathy; followed by an hour in small group, led by two experienced group leaders, where we’ll practice soul-care skills as we listen to one another share a part of their story. • Grace Marriage: A quarterly investment into the health and flourishing of your marriage. Click here for more information or to register.
"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well" (James 5:14-15). Contact Pastor Jason to request visitation or anointing prayer.
