We were created to work. Work is not a product of sin, but sin does make the work we do in this life more difficult. If our identity rests in Jesus and what he has done for us, then we are freed to work in light of the gospel and not to earn anything from God or other people. We all deal with work, whether it’s with our job or some other aspect of our lives, work is a fact of life. When we talk about work, we’re not just talking about getting paid. We’re talking about housework, schoolwork, even yardwork. Work is anything you do in order achieve a goal, whether you get paid or not. There are all sorts of ways to do work badly – from doing no work at all to doing way too much work. We definitely need wisdom, and that’s why God gave us the book of Proverbs, which begs the question: would you rather be an ant or a sluggard?
