“Brace Yourself” Job 38-42
The book of Job opens in heaven with a conversation, a debate between God and Satan. The account shifts to earth for a detailed look at the life of a very blessed man from the land of Uz named Job.
Details
Overnight, Job’s blessings sink into miseries. He loses his health, his wealth, his family and his status. On a heap of ash, scratching his boils with a potsherd, Job is left with a question: “Why?!? Why is all this happening to me?” The bulk of Job consists of a series of debates between Job and his friends who typically offer oversimplified solutions and painfully inadequate answers. But then in God shows up! And this is exactly what Job had asked for. It’s God’s response to Job that pastor Daniel Montgomery will unpack this week – it’s an impressive response and speaks volumes into all suffering, including ours.
