Responsibilities:

I have the awesome privilege of serving our Community Groups alongside Pastor Chad Lewis. I am responsible for the development of new Community Group leaders and all the administrative stuff associated with group life. I also assist with the development and training of new Community Group coaches and the development of training materials to further equip our group leaders to faithfully shepherd those in their care.

Family:

I have been married to Robyn, my precious bride, for a little over five years. We have one daughter, Adelaide Eden.

Hometown:

Boiling Springs, North Carolina — It’s a small college town about an hour west of Charlotte.

Education & Experience:

I have a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Southeastern College at Wake Forest in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and an M.Div. in Christian Ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. I became a Community Group leader at Sojourn in 2006 and have served in group life ever since. God continues to mature me as a shepherd of souls, and I long to serve the group leaders who serve Sojourn so faithfully.

Vision for your position:

As Sojourn continues to grow larger, by God’s grace, we must also grow smaller. I want to equip group leaders to foster redemptive relationships among the people in their care — to see authentic biblical fellowship develop. I want to train leaders to replicate themselves, with missional purpose, so that we can make more room for more people in more groups. I don’t want our relationships with one another to begin to reflect something of a Sunday superficiality, and I don’t want anyone to fall through the cracks. I envision myself investing in Community Group leaders who in turn invest themselves intentionally in the people in their care.

What brought you to Sojourn?

My wife and I visited numerous churches when we moved to Louisville, but none of them seemed to be the right fit. Someone suggested that we visit Sojourn, and we did. I can still remember our conversation as we left our very first Sojourn Gathered service. We had sung, prayed, confessed, and heard the gospel proclaimed, and we had instantly felt a welcome part of this community of believers. We didn’t bother going anywhere else. We settled in, and we have since grown to cherish our Sojourn family.

Favorite movie/ TV show:

Movie: It’s a tie between Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan and Crash/ TV: Smallville

Favorite music/ band:

Music: Progressive Rock and Metal/ Band: Dream Theater

Favorite book other than the Bible:

Desiring God by John Piper

Hobbies/interests:

I get stoked when football season rolls around. College, NFL, Fantasy -- you name it, I’m into it. I also like reading and scouring the internet for rare or out-of-print books. I guess it’s the thrill of the hunt! And though I don’t buy nearly the amount of CDs that I used to, I’m still hard rocker at heart.
