Responsibilities:

This pastoral role exists to build and develop the commitment ministries of Sojourn, seeking to effectively establish a bridge between the two wings of Sojourn: Gathering and Groups. This will include after service pastoral care and decision counseling for those seeking to make decisions to follow Christ, recommit to following Jesus, desiring to get baptized, need prayer and counseling, want to join Sojourn, and/or want to plug into a Community Group at Sojourn.

Family:

My beautiful wife Ginger and my baby boy Thomas.

Hometown:

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma but grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Moving from small town Oklahoma to big city Memphis was quite a shock to my 11-year-old system.

Education & Experience:

I have a math degree from Union University and a few classes left in my Masters of Divinity from Southern Seminary. I have worked as a school teacher and coach, Christian school chaplain, and worked with youth at a church before coming to Louisville. Also, I have traveled to numerous states to lead worship and preach as a traveling preacher/singer-man.

Vision for your position:

My hope and prayer is for our people to experience God’s grace through life changing relationships in community. As we grow in love for God, we will grow in love for our fellow brothers and sisters and those who are lost in this world. A lot of this transformation will come as we live in community with each other and as we seek to rest in Christ and wrestle to believe the promises of Scripture.

What brought you to Sojourn?

I came to Southern Seminary in the fall of 2004. God led me to Sojourn a few months later. The moment I stepped in the doors, my heart was moved with the raw worship and authenticity of the church. I knew this was the place for me. I was invited to join the staff in June of 2007.

Favorite movie/ TV show:

I am currently enjoying Heroes and have tried to fly and melt things recently but was not successful. I usually enjoy a good episode of Seinfeld and as far as movies go, I really enjoy the Bourne anything, Indiana Jones and Shawshank Redemption.

Favorite music/ band:

Of course, everyone loves the Sojourn Band and CD’s best. I like Bela Fleck, the Counting Crows, Matthew Perryman Jones, ASIAM and David Gray. Also, Rich Mullins is a hero of mine.

Favorite book other than the Bible:

Give me a Louis Lamour book any day of the week. I love westerns and adventure reading. I also love stories of survival.

Hobbies/interests:

I still love playing my guitar and writing songs, but my greatest interest is hanging out with my awesome wife and new son. I also like to come up with amazing plans on how to get in shape and then not put them into practice.

Yesterday we witnessed over 20 baptisms at Sojourn Gathered worship services, both in the East and Midtown campuses.  I caught up with Pastor Chad Lewis to talk about the biblical and historical pattern in the lives of believers: the potential for spiritual attack and warfare following baptism and other marks of obedience to God.
