The book of Matthew presents Jesus to us as the King, carrying God’s Kingdom with Him. This week, we see Jesus the King calling His followers (then and now) to be about the mission of expanding His Kingdom. Jesus Christ, by laying down His life for His friends (for us), was the only man to ever truly be a good friend. In taking our sins as bad friends upon Himself, He restored us to friendship and deep acceptance with God: He has made a way for us to be a true, close friend.

“Wealth” Proverbs

Most of us hear ‘wealth’ and we think of a rich old man who lives in a mansion, or we think of a rich young European who just wrecked his third Ferrari. When we hear ‘wealth’ we think, ‘Not me.’ However, the Biblical view of wealth is much broader – in the Scriptures we all have wealth because we all have received blessings from God. So the question is not whether we have wealth (we do) but how we use our wealth. Pastor Daniel Montgomery continues our series on Proverbs, this week looking into that book’s wisdom on wealth: how to get it and how to use it.

We all deal with work, whether it’s with our job or some other aspect of our lives, work is a fact of life. When we talk about work, we’re not just talking about getting paid. There are all sorts of ways to do work badly – from doing no work at all to doing way too much work. We definitely need wisdom, and that’s why God gave us the book of Proverbs, which begs the question: would you rather be an ant or a sluggard? Jonah 1-4 “Jonah and the Compassion of God”

Micah 5:1-6 “The Shepherd-King”

Amos “Let Justice Roll”

Though there seemed to be a flood of wealth, God declares through Amos that there is a severe drought of justice. Daniel 5 “The Writing On the Wall”

As God steps in, inscribing a mysterious message on the wall, and Daniel comes to give God’s message, we see Belshazzar’s story clearly written: destined for death, incapable of measuring up and having nothing of permanence. It was Belshazzar’s story and it’s our story, but thank God it’s not the end of the story. Listen in as pastor Mike Cosper shows how closely woven our story is to Belshazzar’s and how Jesus comes in and completely re-writes the writing on the wall.
