Addiction Track Session Notes A (Counseling & The Church Conference)
Taught August 26, 2009 at The 930 Art Center.
Led by-James Noriega, Mars Hill (WA)
Does the church have anything to offer those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction? Our culture and the therapeutic world label such men and women as “addicts” and place them in specialized and segregated treatment. Should the church take the same approach? Is the gospel sufficient in effectively helping those with such difficult and chronic struggle? Can the church offer the accountability and community necessary to bring about change?
In this track, we’ll look at how those struggling with substance abuse are finding freedom in the gospel and are experiencing renewal within the local church community Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA. These sessions will also seek to engage some of the more popular movements within the current culture of secular psychology and traditional “recovery”.
